This Eaglet is 10-weeks-old and ready to make it's maiden flight from the nest and become a Fledgling. Typically, Eaglets practice "branching," a term for hopping and flying from branch to branch near the nest - as this bird is practicing in preparation for that first flight.
These two eaglets are seeking shade on a warm July day. The leaves of the Narrow-leaf cottonwood tree provide shade and shelter for the nest that they will soon be departing, graduating to the status of Fledglings. Pictured, Challenger (L) and Freedom (R).
